چکیده

A non-rigid ultrasound image registration method is proposed in this work using the intensity as well as the local phase information under a variational framework. One application of this technique is to register two consecutive images in an ultrasound image sequence. Although intensity is the most widely used This research was partially supported by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Korea, under the Home Network Research Center–Information Technology Research Center support program supervised by the Institute of Information Technology Assessment. By integrating the intensity and the local phase information, we can find and track the non-rigid transformation of each pixel under diffeomorphism between the source and target images. Experiments using synthetic and cardiac images of in vivo mice and human subjects are conducted to demonstrate the advantages of the proposed method.

Compensation of brain shift during surgery using non-rigid registration of MR and ultrasound images

Background: Surgery and accurate removal of the brain tumor in the operating room and after opening the scalp is one of the major challenges for neurosurgeons due to the removal of skull pressure and displacement and deformation of the brain tissue. This displacement of the brain changes the location of the tumor relative to the MR image taken preoperatively. Methods: This study, which is done...

SIFT and shape information incorporated into fluid model for non-rigid registration of ultrasound images

Non-rigid registration of ultrasound images takes an important role in image-guided radiotherapy and surgery. Intensity-based method is popular in non-rigid registration, but it is sensitive to intensity variations and has problems with matching small structure features for the existence of speckles in ultrasound images. In this paper, we develop a new algorithm integrating the intensity and fe...

A Novel Subsampling Method for 3D Multimodality Medical Image Registration Based on Mutual Information

Mutual information (MI) is a widely used similarity metric for multimodality image registration. However, it involves an extremely high computational time especially when it is applied to volume images. Moreover, its robustness is affected by existence of local maxima. The multi-resolution pyramid approaches have been proposed to speed up the registration process and increase the accuracy of th...

Using the Local Phase of the Magnitude of the Local Structure Tensor for Image Registration

The need of image registration is increasing, especially in the medical image domain. The simplest kind of image registration is to match two images that have similar intensity. More advanced cases include the problem of registering images of different intensity, for which phase based algorithms have proven to be superior. In some cases the phase based registration will fail as well, for instan...

Non-rigid registration between 3D ultrasound and CT images of the liver based on intensity and gradient information.

In order to utilize both ultrasound (US) and computed tomography (CT) images of the liver concurrently for medical applications such as diagnosis and image-guided intervention, non-rigid registration between these two types of images is an essential step, as local deformation between US and CT images exists due to the different respiratory phases involved and due to the probe pressure that occu...
